Product Details
+For your consideration we are offering for sale this Beautiful Circa 1920s Waterman 452 1/2V Ringtop Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Sterling Silver Overlay. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.
Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly size, #14 silicone sac. Hand polished the Sterling Silver Cap, Barrel, Sterling Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 NIB.
This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with a Sterling Overlay. The hard rubber is black and the sterling overlay is very detailed in excellent condition. The barrel and cap are stamped with a very crisp, "Waterman's, Sterling Made in U.S.A." The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp 452 1/2 V imprint.
The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There is a monogram on the barrel with the initials, "MEH". There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber or sterling overlay. This Waterman 452 1/2V measures 3 3/4" in length capped and 5 1/4" posted. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal #2 NIB, it measures at .77mm with digital calipers.
The lever and box assembly has been removed, cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever are crisp and clean. The underside of the lever is marked "Sterling".
When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring roughly .71mm and flexes up to roughly a triple broad stroke of 1.98mm (see image) with normal to firm pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This is an excellent, antique Waterman's 452 1/2V Fountain Pen with Sterling Overlay that is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB
