＋For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored 1920s Waterman #55 Smooth Black Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. This is the cleanest Black Hard Rubber Waterman I have handled and consider it in Near Mint condition - it is an exceptional fountain pen and collector worthy.
Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new a rubber sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Clip-Cap Clip, Gold Filled Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #5 NIB.
This fountain pen is made from hard rubber and is smooth with deep black coloring with no cracks. The coloring is gorgeous displaying a consistent black color. The Gold Filled trim is all in perfect condition with no wear or brassing - it looks like it has almost never been touched. The barrel has the imprint at the center of the barrel is clean and crisp that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG US IDEAL GLOBE PAT OFF FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp number "55" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #55 measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 7/8" posted.
The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.
This Waterman has a #5 WATERMAN Nib Made in the USA. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .60mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring roughly .66mm and will flex to a triple broad line of 2.13mm with firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The nib writes exceptionally smooth and is an enjoyable experience. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
