+For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored 1920s Waterman 58 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.
Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new rubber sac. Hand polished the Nickel Plated Waterman's Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #8 Manifold NIB.
This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Black Chased design. The cap chasing and color is what I would consider being mint with wonderfully deep, black coloring. Additionally, the cap is a clipless model. The barrel displays some oxidation and the chasing is very worn. The imprint is complete but light and reads, "WATERMAN'S REG US IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt-end of the barrel is stamped with model number 58.
The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber.
The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. It works as it was designed to - sucks up water without any issue in my testing.
This Waterman has the Ideal Made in USA Manifold #8 - 14K NIB. The NIB has a fabulous smooth writing experience for such a firm nib. When measuring the actual tip of the NIB, it measured at .80mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .58mm with very light pressure on the horizontal strokes and flexes up to a broad stroke 1.01mm with a firm to medium pressure. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This Waterman's 58 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen is in "ready to write" condition. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to be in fine condition and a wonderful user grade Waterman 58. Certainly, a wonderful writing instrument to add to any writing arsenal collection.
