＋For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Scarce Restored 1940 Waterman Hundred Year Blue Transparent Lucite Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.
In 1939 Waterman began manufacturing the 100 Year fountain pen to the public. The first year fountain pen came with the Cap Clip that went over the top of the cap, which this one is not - this is the 2nd Year Waterman Hundred Fountain Pen. Also, the first year - 100 Year Waterman Fountain Pens were made from Lucite but were changed back to celluloid after 1940.
I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a silicone rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Barrel Banding, Gold Filled Clip, Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 100 Year Flexible NIB.
This fountain pen is made from lucite in transparent Blue Lucite with the ribbed cap and barrel. The coloring is an amazing blue on the cap or barrel. There is a very tiny 2mm nick out of the lucite on the right side of at the top of the cap next to the clip - the clip is secure with no movement - again, it is very tiny at 2mm and point it out for clarity sake. The back of the cap has the imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFFICE MADE IN U.S.A. HUNDRED YEAR PEN". The barrel has the gold filled banding that is clean and secure to the ribbed barrel. There is no wear or brassing to any of the gold filled trim on this fountain pen with only the slight exception on the arm of the lever (minor wear but point it out for clarity sake).
This Waterman has been preserved handsomely and a wonderful example. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms on the cap or barrel. There is no crazing to either the cap or barrel. This Waterman Hundred Year is a Standard size fountain pen that measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 1/8" posted.
The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully.
Here is the "fun" part of this fountain pen. The NIB is the 14K Waterman Hundred Year that is flexible and writes smoothly. When measuring the actual tip of the NIB, it measures at .65mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .54mm with very light pressure and flexes up to a triple broad stroke of 1.84mm with medium to firm pressure; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
Finding a Waterman Hundred Year Pen is elusive and finding one in this condition is extremely difficult. This Waterman Hundred Year Pen that I would consider the condition to be in Very Fine to Excellent condition in the desirable Blue Transparent Lucite coloring. Certainly, this is a collector grade writing instrument and is ready to write.
